CHEYENNE – The closures of Cheyenne Aquatic Center (931 Martin Esquibel Drive) and the Johnson Pool (303 E. Eighth St.) due to COVID-19 exposure were announced Sunday night.

Community Recreation and Events Director Teresa Moore said Monday the exposure stemmed from a management staff member testing positive for the virus, not the lifeguards, instructors or public-facing employees at the pools.

Following the Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department’s guidance, enough staff members who interacted with the COVID-positive employee have to quarantine for two weeks that the pools must remain closed during that time. Moore said the national labor shortage also impacted the situation, as their staff was already limited before quarantine.

Echoing health department sentiments, Moore said, “The public is advised that we are still in a pandemic, and you still have to be aware of that and take proper precautions.”

The city will provide an update when both the Aquatic Center and Johnson Pool reopen to the public.
