George and Fay Zaharas are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend.
George and Fay (Mavrakis) met in 1965 as students at Sheridan Junior College, and were later reacquainted in 1968 while attending the University of Wyoming.
The couple was married Nov. 9, 1969, at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cheyenne.
George worked as a pharmacist/manager at United Healthcare Pharmacy from 1972-77, and from 1977-81 he owned the pharmacy in the Gibson Store on Carlson Street. The pair established Town and Country Pharmacy in 1981 and ran the business together for 29 years until selling it in 2010.
Fay and George are active members of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church and Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Parish Counsel and chairing the Greek Festival. They’re also loyal UW football and basketball fans and members of the Cowboy Joe Club. They enjoy going to Denver Broncos games (they’re season ticket holders), traveling and spending time at their cabin in Keystone.
An early 50th anniversary celebration was held Aug. 31 at Little America Hotel and Resort.
The couple has two sons, Pete and Paul Zaharas, who both reside in Denver. They also have four grandsons, a granddaughter and four nieces.
