CHEYENNE - A pair of local businesses will wrap up expansions for 2010.

Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union and Life Care Center of Cheyenne are expanding to meet changing customer demands.

The credit union will finish its project by the end of February; Life Care's addition is scheduled for completion this winter.

The expansion at 4349 E. Lincolnway is three to four years in the making, said Dr. Kim Withers, CEO of Meridian Trust Federal Credit Union in Cheyenne. But the current economic climate allowed the credit union to save about $500,000 on the final construction bid.

Withers added that the addition will provide 9,000 square feet of office space with an underground parking lot large enough to accommodate 20 vehicles. The expansion will house 18 administrative offices as well as a state-of-the-art training room.

"Because we're a statewide organization, we need that infrastructure in place," Withers said. "We need this to continue to grow."

She added that the credit union is landlocked at its 2223 Warren Ave. location and didn't have the room to expand downtown.

Life Care Center of Cheyenne will host a groundbreaking at 2 p.m. Jan 21 as the skilled nursing and rehab facility begins construction for a new rehabilitation addition.

Its parent company, Life Care Centers of America, bought seven acres to the north of the 1330 Prairie Ave. location last year for expansion.

The Therapy Center at Life Care for Cheyenne will include 12 private rooms for occupational, physical and speech therapy as well as a large rehab gym once it is complete, community relations director Caroline Veit said.

The new rehab gym is expected to add about 3,800 square feet and will include an occupational therapy suite and state-of-the-art therapy equipment, such as an underwater treadmill system.

Veit added that the expansion will serve the community's growing need for services and answer the demand for private therapy rooms.

It also represents the first phase of the project. Once the addition is complete, the existing portion of the building will get a complete renovation to offer 24 private rooms at The Therapy Center.
