Bret Anderson

CHEYENNE – A Laramie County Detention Center inmate who appeared to have attempted suicide last week died Monday, and an autopsy has been ordered.

Laramie County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Capt. Linda Gesell said Monday morning that 34-year-old Bret Anderson was still alive and being treated at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

She said later that evening that Anderson died around noon.

Jail deputies found Anderson unresponsive in his cell at 1:08 p.m. Thursday.

At the time, officials would not definitively confirm whether Anderson had attempted to take his own life. Laramie County Sheriff Danny Glick said Friday, though, that it appeared the county jail had its third suicide attempt in the past six months.

Anderson was an inmate at the jail since his arrest Jan. 13. He was awaiting trial on counts of first-degree sexual assault-force, domestic battery, two counts of strangulation of a household member and physical child abuse.
