CHEYENNE – Two people are dead, including the gunman, following a shooting at a senior living home in Cheyenne.

Two others are injured. Their conditions have not been released.

The shooter, who later killed himself, has been identified as 77-year-old Larry Rosenberg, who was a resident at the affordable living complex.

The shooting happened around 11:11 a.m. at the Heritage Court Apartments at 3912 Gregg Way, which is adjacent to College Drive and northeast of King Soopers.

One person was shot inside the building and two others were shot in the parking lot. Police are not going to identify any of the victims until at least 24 hours after notifying their next-of-kin.

Police spokesman Officer Dan Long said Rosenberg fled the scene and shot himself with a handgun as officers approached him in the area of Hot Springs Avenue and Chestnut Drive. He was transported by ambulance for medical care and died.

All Cheyenne schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, but that lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.

Long said arrangements are being made for residents at Heritage Court while police process the scene.

The suspect could be prior military and might have left the scene on a bicycle, according to scanner traffic. Long said those facts cannot be confirmed.

Police set up a command post and swept the area, searching for the suspect.

Later, scanner traffic indicated a weapon that may have been used in the shooting was located. It was reported to be a .22-caliber American Arms revolver.

Long said a rifle also was located on scene, and police are working with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine whether it was used in the shooting.

As of 11:40 a.m., traffic was being diverted from the intersection of College Drive and Dell Range Boulevard, but those roads have since reopened.
