CHEYENNE – Last Saturday’s weather threw a wrench in the city’s plan for the Christmas parade, but it also led to the postponement of the Downtown Development Authority’s Shop Small Saturday.

The event, which was meant to fall on Small Business Saturday, will instead take place this Saturday, Dec. 7, as Shop Small Take2. More than 20 small business owners downtown are providing “Shop Small” discounts, and 10 restaurants are offering small plate specials for the event.

The day also marks the start of a pop-up Santa tour around downtown businesses. Families can visit with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon in the Plains Hotel lobby, with hot chocolate and caroling, and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Just Dandy.

In addition to Shop Small Take2, residents can visit the downtown Chari-Trees display at the Plains Hotel. Each tree is decorated by a local nonprofit, and trees can be bid on, or donations can be dropped off to benefit those groups. The trees are on display until Dec. 14.

The rescheduled Christmas parade and tree lighting will take place later that evening.
