CHEYENNE – Officials at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cheyenne issued a response after they learned the Cheyenne Police Department filed probable cause affidavits Wednesday with the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office in two sex abuse cases.
Police didn’t identify the individuals in the release, and neither will the diocese in respect to the judicial process, the news release stated.
Cheyenne Police said one person was listed as a member of the Catholic clergy, and another person as “attempting to become a clergyman.” The release from the diocese said this caused significant speculation and confusion. It said CPD didn’t communicate with the diocese “regarding the rationale for such a description,” and they “are not sure of their intent.”
The second person was likely an adult altar server at the time of the alleged crime, the release said. If that’s the case, it would make the person a layman. Diocese officials said it will be necessary for CPD to clarify their statement with the public.
