CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority is collaborating with local businesses, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and Yola Pet Rescue to bring a variety of “Dog Days of Summer” events to downtown.

“Dog Days” events will include a sidewalk sale, other promotional specials and pet adoption events on Aug. 23 and 24. A week-long pet food donation drive will also be part of the “Dog Days” activities Aug. 19-24.

In addition to the Sidewalk Sale, other downtown businesses, such as restaurants, brewpubs and other service-based businesses, are encouraged to offer “dog-themed” specials as part of the fun. For those businesses wanting to participate in the Sidewalk Sale, DDA has received the setback requirements from the city, and they can be obtained by emailing Vicki Dugger at Businesses that want to have a sidewalk sale in front of their location do not have to apply for any additional permits, but do need to follow the setback guidelines. All downtown businesses that want to participate in the “Dog Days of Summer” activities should contact the DDA office no later than Wednesday, Aug. 21, at noon so all related sales and promotions can marketed as a whole.

To build off the “Dog Days” theme, Downtown Cheyenne is also coordinating with the Cheyenne Animal Shelter and Yola Pet Rescue to have two downtown-based pet adoption events. On Friday, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter will have an adoption booth in front of the DDA office, 1601 Capitol Ave., from 5-7 p.m., with an information booth from 3-5 p.m. On Saturday, Eclectic Elephant Antiques, located at 112 W. 18th St., will host a Yola Pet Rescue adoption event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A week-long Pet Food Donation Drive will be held for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. Donations of wet or dry food can be dropped off at the following downtown businesses: Red Bison Home, Our Place Antiques, Freedom’s Edge Brewery or Mid Mod Etc.

For more information on any of the downtown-related events or activities, contact DDA Executive Director Vicki Dugger at 307-433-9730 ext. 4.
