CHEYENNE – City firefighters responded early Friday morning to an old warehouse ablaze at the corner of 22nd Street and Snyder Avenue.
Cheyenne Fire Rescue arrived on scene at 1:19 a.m. Friday to find the steel structure engulfed in flames and heavy smoke. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the side of the building in order to get inside.
Firefighters were further hampered by the fact the warehouse was filled to near capacity with objects like a car, tools and other storable belongings.
Public information officer Scott Smith said there were no hazardous materials inside, but the sheer number of objects made it difficult for firefighters to get the fire under control.
With assistance from Laramie County Fire Districts 1 and 2, as well as Cheyenne Police, the blaze was under control by 2:28 a.m. The scene was cleared by 8 a.m.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire. The damage cost to the building and belongings has not been determined.
No injuries were reported.
