CHEYENNE – The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed via Twitter on Saturday that it is investigating a crash that day of a single-engine plane south of Carpenter.
According to the Aviation Safety Network, the pilot of the Bellanca 7GCBC Citabria “C” Package was killed in the crash, which happened around 5:45 p.m. The NTSB tweet was posted at 6:34 p.m. Saturday.
The plane, which had no other occupants, according to the website run by the Flight Safety Foundation, bore the registration number N5502S. It crashed into a field, according to the site.
According to the website FlightAware.com, the fixed-wing aircraft was registered to Zane G. Schmeeckle of Fort Morgan, Colorado. However, it is not known at this time who was piloting the plane when it crashed.
