CHEYENNE – U.S. Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming co-sponsored a bill called The Legion Act that expands the eligibility for American Legion membership, according to an American Legion news release.
The legislation changes the eligibility criteria from six war eras to two – April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918; and Dec. 7, 1941, to a date later determined by the federal government.
Nine percent of Wyoming’s population are veterans. This opens up American Legion eligibility to more than 10,000 veterans in Wyoming, according to the news release.
Started in 1919, the American Legion serves the community, state and nation through four pillars of veterans affairs and rehabilitation, Americanism, children and youth, and national security.
