CHEYENNE – A head-on collision Tuesday morning in Newcastle killed two people, including a resident of Cheyenne.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 85 just south of Newcastle. A 2014 Chrysler Town and Country was traveling northbound on U.S. 85 when it crossed over into the southbound lane to pass a vehicle. Due to the weather conditions, the driver didn’t see a 2004 Lincoln Town Car traveling in the southbound lane, and the two cars collided head-on.

The driver of the Lincoln, 84-year-old Harry Mueller of Cheyenne, died from his injuries at the scene of the accident. His passenger, 82-year-old Margaret Mueller of Cheyenne, was taken to Weston County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of the Chrysler, 76-year-old Bernard Holman of Spooner, Wisconsin, was transported to Weston County Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Holman’s passenger, 78-year-old Bonnie M. Stewart of Spooner, Wisconsin, also was hospitalized.

The Highway Patrol said poor visibility is being investigated as a contributing factor in the accident.
