I just heard that a young man I knew had taken his own life. His world went black, and he could see no light.
A few years ago, when I was a crisis counselor, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall's dad, Stewart Udall, visited with me. We were standing below some trees. He expressed concern for families in crisis, and he gave me the following reading to share with those suffering from depression, loneliness, broken relationships, the loss of a loved one, stress, or worried and troubled minds. It was written by an unknown Native American chief.
It reads: "Mother Nature, with all your beauty, sing me a song that will ease my pain, mend my bones, broken heart or troubled mind. With all your beauty, bring wholeness to me again. Mother Nature, heal whatever ails me so that I can see those gifts of yours that can live through me."
Nature sings praises to her creator with every season. We need to do the same. Our heavenly father is good, and he has the whole world in His hands.
