A few years ago, I tried speaking with a representative for my area (at this point, I will bring in no names). My question was simple: What could be done about the personal property tax on home-owned alternative energy systems, namely solar Panels and wind generators (and I know there are other methods)?

The response was a bit staggering: “The coal industry would not like that.” I was polite and did not respond to that the way I would have wished. I know they (alternative energy) get deals, as well; the oil industry also gets deals. Every big industry get some kind of deal, but if homeowners are willing to go to the expense to put up solar or wind, it would be nice that our own government did not discourage doing this by taxing it.
