ROCK SPRINGS — Another business will be filling space along Dewar Drive. Planet Fitness is projected to open its Rock Springs location in November and it will employ 20 to 25 team members, Planet Fitness Franchisee Dave Leon said in an email.

Work inside the building will begin as soon as the city issues a construction permit, he said.

The building where Sports Authority once sat has been vacant since 2016 when the business announced it was going to close its 463 stores, including the Rock Springs location, the Rocket-Miner reported.

When asked why Planet Fitness was opening in Rock Springs, Leon said, “I am building out all of Wyoming and Montana and North Dakota and any town that shows a trade area of close to a population of 40,000 people there will eventually be a Planet Fitness.”

The company owns fitness centers around the world. It was founded in 1992 in Dover, New Hampshire, has over 1,500 locations including Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie.
