ROCK SPRINGS — Following a unanimous vote from the Rock Springs City Council during the meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17, Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport will be submitting an application for an American Rescue Plan Local Government Project Grant.
The grant comes from the Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board and is in the amount of $3,069,263.
If received, the grant would go toward supporting the ongoing Commercial Terminal Modernization Project.
Airport director Devon Brubaker provided the council with some of the details pertaining to why the city is being approached to apply for the grant fun sponsorship.
“Unfortunately, the airport cannot apply by itself as a joint powers board, unlike the water and wastewater grant application that we did apply directly for. This one requires it to be a city, county or a municipality,” Brubaker said. “As a member of the joint powers board and the land owner of the airport, it made logical sense to approach the city for sponsorship.”
