Sanchez paces South

at Sheridan meet

CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne South cross-country teams competed at the Michelle Ludwig Invitational on Sheridan on Saturday, and junior Ana Sanchez placed 15th in the varsity girls race.

Sanchez covered the 3.1-mile course in 22 minutes, 42 seconds to lead the Lady Bison to a 10th-place finish.

The boys didn’t have enough runners for a team, but senior Clay Johnson led them with a 22nd-place finish and a time of 17:52.

South will join Central and East at the John Martin Invitational on Friday in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Cheyenne Central squads

both fall at Gillette

CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Central girls tennis team dropped its dual to Gillette 3-2 on Saturday morning.

Sophomore Rachel Phillips beat Gillette’s Lauren Miller 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles for the Indians’ first win. Amber True and Claire Swanson grabbed the other win, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

The Camels boys beat Central 5-0.

CHEYENNE – Both Cheyenne East tennis teams lost to Gillette 5-0 on Saturday morning.

The Thunderbirds’ closest match with Gillette came from

the No. 2 doubles team of Javaun Garcia and Luke Macy, who lost 6-4, 6-2.

Hornets go on the road, sweep Tigers

CHEYENNE – The Pine Bluffs volleyball team completed a perfect weekend in conference play, traveling to Lusk for a 25-12, 25-18, 25-9 win on Saturday.

“The girls came out and played very aggressive,” coach Christina Nusbaum said. “The girls fixed their own errors and finished the final set on a strong note.”

Brooke Darden had two aces,

31 assists and 7 digs. Jaden Ragsdale delivered 14 kills, one block and 10 digs. Jadyn Golding contributed five aces, two kills, two assists and nine digs. Jesi Zitek had two digs, nine kills and one block, and Melissa  Fornstrom had 10 digs and five kills.

Broncs drop final two matches in Big Horn

CHEYENNE – The Burns volleyball team finished the Big Horn Invitational 2-3 after dropping two matches Saturday.

The Lady Broncs fell to Shoshoni (25-19, 25-12) and Tongue River (25-23, 21-25, 18-16).

Senior Mckenzie Ward had 44 digs and 20 kills on the weekend, while her twin sister Mckayla Ward dished out 58 assists.

Junior Jessica Malm chipped in with 55 digs.

Sophomore Katie Norris finished the weekend with 19 kills and 12 ace serves.
