Pine Bluffs spikers sweep Saratoga on Saturday

CHEYENNE – Senior Jaden Ragsdale and sophomore Marina Howard posted nine kills each to help the Pine Bluffs volleyball team to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 victory Saturday in Saratoga.

Ragsdale chipped in with six digs, while Howard added four blocks.

“We were a little slow and sluggish at the start,” Hornets coach Chris Nusbaum said. “We worked through it and were firing on all cylinders by game three.”

Junior setter Brooke Darden dished out 27 assists to go with eight digs.

Jadyn Golding and Melissa Fornstrom both had nine digs, while Fornstrom was also 10 for 10 from the service line for the Hornets (11-5 overall, 3-3 Class 2A East Conference).

Moose comeback keeps Stampede winless in WSHL

CHEYENNE – The Salt Lake City Moose scored three third-period goals to beat the Cheyenne Stampede 6-3 on Sunday.

Cheyenne (0-3-0-0) led the Western States Hockey League game 4-3 after two periods.

Second-year forward Branko Oktavec scored a goal and had two assists for the Stampede, who also lost to the Ogden Mustangs (4-2) on Saturday night.

Mitchell Mueller, Cory Hurtubise and Garrett Hughes also had goals for Cheyenne. Fourth-year forward Heath Lantz and defenseman Jeremy Szczurek chipped in with two assists.

Salt Lake was 3 for 9 on power plays, while the Stampede was just 1 for 9 with an extra skater.

Cheyenne plays a two-game set at Casper starting Friday night.

Cowgirls soccer downs Boise St. in overtime

CHEYENNE – Freshman forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes scored in the 104th minute to help the University of Wyoming beat Boise State 1-0 on Sunday in Boise, Idaho.

The Cowgirls improved to 3-1-0 in Mountain West play and are currently second in the league standings.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Boehm had four saves to post her sixth career shutout.

UW hosts Colorado College at 3 p.m. Friday. The Tigers are in their first season in the MW.

Cowboys golfers tie for fourth at own tournament

CHEYENNE – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team shot a 12-over-par 300 in the final round of the inaugural Cowboy Southern Dunes Invitational on Sunday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

The Cowboys tied for fourth in the eight-team tournament at 24-over 888.

Junior Kamrin Allen of Sheridan paced the Pokes with a 1-over 217, which tied for ninth in the 49-player field.

UW freshman Quintin Pope, a Cheyenne East graduate, tied for 38th with a 17-over 233.

It’s UW’s final event of the fall season.

Boheler drills ace on Hole No. 9 at Airport Golf Club

CHEYENNE – Rick Boheler used a 9-iron to hit a hole-in-one on 160-yard part 3 Hole No. 9 at the Airport Golf Club on Saturday.

The feat was witnessed by his brother, Kevin Boheler.
