CHEYENNE – Saddle bronc rider Brody Cress of Hillsdale split the championship of the Ellensburg (Washington) Rodeo on Monday.

The 25-year-old finished with 175 points on two rides to share the title with Chase Brooks of Deer Lodge, Montana. Both cowboys earned $3,174 for their efforts.

Cress tied Sage Newman of Melstone, Montana, for the first go-round win by scoring 87.5 points on Flying 5 Rodeo's Blue Feather. Cress was second in the finals with an 87.5 on Monster of Corey and Lange Rodeo to earn another $3,174.

The 2014 Cheyenne East graduate also placed eighth at the Magic Valley Stampede in Filer, Idaho, by scoring 81 points on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics' Gargamel. That effort earned him $189.

Cress remains No. 3 in the Professional Rodeo Association's world standings with $141,507 in earnings.

Bareback rider Cole Reiner of Kaycee is eighth in the world with $82,953. Barrel racer Amanda Welsh of Gillette also is eighth with nearly $61,000.
